The Green Cattle Company purchased the Bacca Float #5 in 1936 and added additional land on the west side, shortly thereafter. The JJJ Corporation, headed by John N. Irwin II, acquired the ranch in 1973. His daughter, Jane Droppa and family currently oversee the operations of the ranch.

The land is still some of the roughest untamed land in the Southwest with elevations running from 4,000 – 7,500 feet. The ranch is divided into five year-round cow camps and headquarters.

Cowboys throughout the west consider it one of the top ranches of its size. In the early years it was truly a “horseback ranch" in that all the work was done from the back of a horse. All the supplies had to be hauled in by freight wagon and pack mules. Its mule-drawn chuck wagon was one of the last in Arizona. Today we run a more modernized wagon out of necessity, spring and fall.

The owner’s dedication to raising beef while preserving the rugged, horseback nature of the job makes for a unique outfit, and cowboys recognize and appreciate the opportunity to work at the RO’s.
